Tim is an applied development micro-economist and Junior Research Fellow at the Development Policy Research Unit (DPRU) based in the University of Cape Town's School of Economics, where he is also a PhD candidate. His dissertation, under the supervision of Prof Haroon Bhorat, focuses on a micro-econometric analysis of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on labour market inequalities in South Africa. He obtained his Masters and Honours degrees in Economics from Stellenbosch University. He previously worked as a research assistant on education-related work for the Research on Socio-Economic Policy (ReSEP) unit in Stellenbosch University’s Department of Economics, and a research intern in the South African Reserve Bank. His research interests relate predominantly to development micro-economics.
