Corné van Walbeek is a Professor in Economics at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the Director of the Research Unit in the Economics of Excisable Products (REEP). Embedded in REEP is the Knowledge Hub on Tobacco Taxation and Illicit Trade, which provides policy support to LMICs on behalf of the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.  Corné  has more than 20 years’ research experience in the economics of tobacco control, including the demand for tobacco, industry price responses, changes in smoking prevalence, the size of the illicit market, and modelling the public health and fiscal impact of tobacco tax changes.
