Professor Ivan Turok holds a SA NRF Research Chair in City-Region Economies at the University of the Free State and is Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Regional Studies and the former Chair of the Durban City Planning Commission. He is an elected Member of the Academy of Science of SA and a former Executive Director at the Human Sciences Research Council. He is a regular advisor to the United Nations, OECD, African Development Bank and SA government on various aspects of urban and regional development. He has a PhD in Economics from the University of Reading.
