Short CV

Chris van Wyk is a researcher at RESEP based at the University of Stellenbosch.

He has extensive experience in the South African education sector having worked in schools and universities as a teacher, principal and lecturer as well as having spent over 10 years managing the Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) for the Western Cape provincial government. He was involved in the development of the Education Management Information Systems for the National Department of Education in South Africa, as has analysed the data quality of education statistics in Kenya, Botswana and Malawi using Data Quality Assessment Framework of UNESCO. He was also  involved in a project for NSFAS to undertake a detailed cohort analysis of students who received their first loan/ bursary through NSFAS in the academic years 2000-2004.

He has a PhD in Education Policy from Stellenbosch University as well as a post-graduate diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation and an Honours degree in computer science.
