Philippe Burger is Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences and Professor of Economics at the University of the Free State. He is a past President of the Economic Society of South Africa (ESSA) and was a member of the South African Statistics Council. He is a National Research Foundation rated researcher and is currently non-Resident Senior Research Fellow, United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), in which capacity he is the lead for the Macro-Fiscal workstream for the SA-TIED II project. He has been a research consultant to the OECD and visiting scholar at the IMF. He is the 2002 recipient of the Founder’s Medal of ESSA for the best PhD thesis at a SA university and was associate editor of the South African Journal of Economics. He is the author of Getting it right: A new economy for South Africa, published in 2018.
